Board Meeting Types
Regular Meetings
The Board holds regular meetings to fulfill its legal duties, including policy discussions, district business, educational program planning, and community matters. Meetings are typically scheduled for the second Wednesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Special Meetings
Special meetings address urgent matters that cannot wait until the next regular meeting. The Board President or a majority of Board members may call these meetings. Only items listed on the agenda will be discussed, and public comments are limited to those agenda items. Meeting notices are posted 24 hours in advance as required by law.
Study Sessions
Study sessions provide Board members with opportunities for planning and discussion without taking formal action. All discussion topics are announced publicly, and sessions follow state law requirements.
Public Hearings
Public hearings are scheduled as needed to ensure community members have adequate time to share their views on specific issues before the Board.
Public Participation
Welcome
The Helendale School District Board of Education welcomes your participation. Your involvement increases public awareness, promotes understanding, and maintains accountability. All Board meetings are open to the public, except for Closed Session meetings as permitted by Government Code 54954.2.
Speaking at Board Meetings
You may address the Board on any agenda item when it's being discussed, or speak about non-agenda school district matters during the “Public Comment” portion of the meeting.
Speaking Guidelines
When called to speak, please step to the microphone and address the Board President. Due to the Brown Act, the Board and administration cannot respond to non-agenda items, but may ask clarifying questions.
We encourage comments focused on issues rather than individuals and ask that all speakers remain respectful of our public employees.
