Staff Spotlight - Jessica Brown

Jessica Brown is the English Language Learner Instructional aide at Helendale Elementary School. Jessica has worked in her position for the past 8 years. She has also served as a substitute aide and as a volunteer for the district. Jessica moved to the high desert because her husband was stationed at Fort Irwin. Jessica’s hobbies include learning new languages, running, kickboxing, dancing, listening to music, watching movies and learning about people. Her favorite food is most any kind except sweet peas and her favorite book is The Firm. We are thankful  that Jessica works for our Helendale School District.

Strategic Planning

On September 6th, 2012 our community gathered to hear the state of the District and to give us direction on the next steps fo our school District. We had over 100 community members participate in these important meetings. The feedback we received has led to the adoption of Board Goals which will now drive the decisions that we make in the future. Those board goals are...

1.      The District will be a source of pride to the Helendale Community through its actions and its effective communication.

2.      The District will always act to maintain fiscal solvency in order to ensure the greatest learning opportunities for every child.

3.      The District will build and maintain educational and extra-curricular programs that enrich every student’s learning experiences.

4.      The District will use technology as a tool to enhance and engage student learning.

5.      The District will ensure that its academic program allows every child to reach their learning potential.

6.      The District will provide operationally effective support systems in order to provide the highest quality learning environment for all students.

7.      The District will teach, encourage, and expect positive student behavior and a safe and orderly school environment in order to promote effective teaching and maximize learning.

Teacher Spotlight - Claudia Banks

Claudia Banks is an Independent Study Teacher assigned to Independence Charter Academy (ICA). Claudia is in her second year in the Helendale School District. Prior to her work in HSD, she taught at Excelsior Charter School as well as Barstow Unified School District. She was recruited to come and work at ICA by her boss, Mr. Hayhurst. Claudia enjoys horseback riding, going to movies (especially ones with happy endings) and traveling with her husband Bob who she met when she was in the 7th grade. Her favorite foods are salty and sweet, and she loves to read Westerns when she isn’t watching Dancing with the Stars or Duck Dynasty. Mrs. Banks brings great talent to the ICA program as an Independent Study Teacher.

Helendale School District Mission Statement

We the parents, community, and staff of the Helendale School District, believe that young people can be taught to be lifetime learners and competent citizens. We are partners in providing our children with an understanding and appreciation of the past and present, as well as, preparation for the future. We will focus on effective instruction that reflects our local history, concern for the environment and belief in a strong academic curriculum. We will work to ensure a safe and orderly environment, sound fiscal management and a belief that the size of our district enhances rather than limits our possibilities.
